    Touchnet Information Systems

Background: The University of Idaho has purchased Touchnet servers and software primarily for the purpose of authenticating credit cards and taking credit card payments over the web. Touchnet was selected because their software interfaces with SCT's Student Web module, which let students pay toward their account with a credit card on the web, but was purchased with the tools necessary to develop our own applications that authenticate credit cards.

The DFA Systems group developed the first few applications for use with the Touchnet system. These applications were successful, but were difficult to maintain because any change to them requested by the user had to be researched and applied by DFA Systems personnel. This was frustrating to both the owners of the application and to DFA Systems because the changes took time to implement.

The UI Touchnet Web API was developed to allow departments within the University to develop their own web applications on their own web servers while allowing them to use Touchnet functionality.
