Field Trips

The Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge field trip and the Snake River field trip have been cancelled due to lack of enrollment.

Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge Field Trip:

Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge (17,908 acres) is located in northeastern Washington on the eastern edge of the Columbia River Basin in Spokane County.  The refuge is composed of deep permanent sloughs, semi-permanent potholes, seasonal wetlands, ponderosa pine/grassland mixed with exposed basalt cliffs and areas of meadow and shrub-steppe. This mosaic provides important habitat for migrating and breeding birds; more than 200 different kinds of birds have been recorded in this area. Turnbull NWR is approximately 80 miles from Moscow, and the departure time for this field trip will be early. The bus for the Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge Trip will leave at 5am and return at 3pm.

Exploring the Idaho Birding Trail:

The Idaho Birding Trail covers the length and breadth of Idaho, highlighting 175 premier birding sites across the state.  We will spend a day visiting a variety of sites in the area surrounding Moscow, focusing on habitats and targeting bird species that are unique to this section of Idaho. The bus for the Exploring the Idaho Birding Trail Trip will leave at 5am and return at 3pm.

Jet boat tour of Hell’s Canyon:

This field trip will consist of a 10 hour jet boat ride up Hell’s Canyon. While this trip will be primarily about seeing North America’s deepest gorge from the bottom, there is abundant white water and wildlife, including: big horn sheep, golden eagles, chukars, and canyon wrens. Lunch and snacks are included in the price of the trip. A minimum number 20 registered people are needed for this trip by April 1st. A maximum of 50 seats are available.  The bus for the Jet boat tour of Hell’s Canyon will leave at 6:45 am and return at 6:45 pm.
